As a shrewd business man, an enthusiastic philanthropist, a doting father, son, husband, friend and one of the most well-known faces across the globe, we can have nothing but admiration for Mr Branson. His constant efforts into moulding his empire to inspire good in the world, his endless charity work and his unlimited passion for helping others and inspiring new start-up business has without doubt been behind the unbelievable success of the Virgin brand.
So where does this unique man choose to spend his days? Well, seven years ago Richard and his family decided to up-sticks and permanently move to the exquisite hideaway and family home that is Necker Island in the BVI. A place where they are “truly able to relax”, in a recent blog he describes the benefits of this unbelievable part of the world.
“There is no better place to stay active and I can kitesurf, surf, play tennis, swim, do Pilates and just play.” - Richard Branson

This beautiful home is just one of the 60+ natural wonders that are dotted around the BVI. Each island has it’s own personality and the whole feel of the communities and way of living here is just completely different from the rest of the Caribbean. It’s intricacy and uniqueness can never be described with justice, it is truly one of those destinations that you have to see to believe. The very fact that each island is so tiny, and that the majority of travelling is done by boat, whether it be yacht or dinghy, adds to the magic of this retreat.
Trying not to get hooked to his blogs, I’ve discovered that the plethora of wildlife found abundantly both in the BVI and the USVI is fascinating. From my own experience I found iguanas roaming freely in St John, nurse sharks living the dream near Virgin Gorda and a whole host of tropical fish just beneath the waves near Scrub Island. Mr Branson describes his love of the animals that inhabit his beautiful Necker, including flamingos, lemurs, tortoises and yet more iguanas.
Even with all the video and photography in the world, we will never be able to describe that feeling you get when you first touchdown, dock or step into the BVI. The closest we can come is to urge you to travel there yourself. It is truly a destination that deserves to be seen at least once in a lifetime.
