Today, November 22nd, marks St Cecilias Day in St Lucia. Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians and church music and the whole island pays homage to this special day. Throughout St Lucia, special church services are held to celebrate this female Saint who was devoted to prayer.

St Lucia is one of the only countries in the Western Hemisphere that has kept the tradition alive by observing this day with musical serenading. This weekend, the islands festivities will run a little something like the below:
Friday 22 November 2013
2:00am to 3:00am – Police Band around the streets of Castries
5:30 am onwards – Musical Orchestras & Collaborations
Noon to 4:00pm – Saint Lucia School of Music, Gravity Band and Friends at Serenity Park
Saturday 23 November 2013
10:00am to 5:00PM – Music Concert at Derek Walcott Square
Sunday 24 November 2013
10:00am – Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception followed by reception at the Ave Maria School
